The interaction of colour is the motivating force in the abstract paintings and wooden pieces by Annabel Ossel. In the acrylic paintings, colours, in combination with the hard-edged, asymmetric shapes create a dynamic visual conversation. Reaching into 3D space, the painted wooden assemblages seem to be an extension of the paintings.
Beyond the surface, some of the works express the artist’s thoughts or emotions, or act as visual metaphors for myriad issues affecting the outside world. The titles give clues to possible meanings: Your Flag or Mine is political while Losing My Identity suggests the personal.
